Umpires

Our umpires are hired a little differently than most leagues in the area. Every year we host umpire-training clinics to teach youth in the area the basics of fastball umpiring by Softball Ontario qualified instructors. Following these sessions, we assess their knowledge and employ successful candidates, based on their abilities, throughout the season. A small per game monetary reward provides them with a source of spring-summer income and a new level of responsibility and confidence as they continue to progress to higher levels.

SMSA is proud of the calibre of our young umpires. The better trained the umpire the more he or she can handle the role and have fun at the same time.Umpiring is a paid position. New and returning umpires will benefit from our Umpire Clinic conducted by Softball Ontario instructors. SMSA will also pay for umpires to obtain Advanced Certification Levels as well. If you are interested in umpiring please contact or leave your name at registration.

Please Note: In order to be eligible to be an umpire you must be at least first year Peewee (i.e. born in 1997 or earlier).

Umpire Clinic will be held Sat. April 24th, 2009 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Lions Hall, Main Street, Stittsville.
